Biography

Monika Baumgartner is a celebrated German actress and theatre director, widely recognized for her portrayals of distinctly Bavarian characters. After training at Munich’s Otto-Falckenberg-Schule, she honed her craft on stages in Mannheim and Hamburg before transitioning to television, where she took on smaller roles in early productions.

Her career-defining moment came in 1982 with the TV series *Die Rumpelhanni*, in which she delivered a memorable performance in the title role. She later became a familiar face to fans of the classic crime drama *Derrick*, appearing in several episodes. Her talent earned her the prestigious Bayerischer Fernsehpreis (Bavarian TV Award) for her work in *Sau sticht*.

In 1998, Baumgartner expanded her creative horizons by stepping into the director’s chair for the first time with *Die Ehrabschneider*. Beyond her on-screen and behind-the-scenes achievements, she shares her expertise as a teacher at the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding. She remains a regular presence on Munich’s theatre scene, balancing her artistic pursuits with a personal venture—an interior decoration shop she runs alongside her sister.
